Serenje Town Council has signed contracts worth over K9.15 million for the implementation of 2026 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) community projects in Serenje and Muchinga constituencies, paving the way for the commencement of key infrastructure development projects.
The contracts, signed during a ceremony held at the Council Motel Conference Hall, cover the construction of schools, health facilities, staff accommodation, the procurement of road maintenance equipment and the supply of classroom furniture aimed at improving service delivery in the two constituencies.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Council Secretary Mr. Stan Mwanakayaya called on the successful contractors to uphold high standards of workmanship and complete the projects within the stipulated contractual timelines.
Mr. Mwanakayaya said the local authority would closely monitor the implementation of the projects to ensure quality, transparency and accountability in the utilisation of public resources.
He urged the contractors to work hand in hand with the Council throughout the implementation period to ensure the projects are completed successfully and deliver the intended benefits to the people of Serenje and Muchinga districts.
The projects include the construction of a 1×3 classroom block at Winnety Primary School, Chimupati Health Centre, a Maternity Annex, 1×3 classroom blocks at Kashinke Mingomba, Misenga and Chambishi Community schools, a 1×2 classroom block at Kalilanama Primary School, and a semi-detached staff house with a tank stand at Waya Primary School.
The programme also provides for the procurement of a roller compactor to strengthen road maintenance works and the supply and delivery of 252 classroom desks for schools in Muchinga Constituency.
The Council said while a number of successful contractors signed their contracts during the ceremony, the remaining contractors are expected to complete the process in the coming days.
The implementation of the projects is expected to improve access to education, healthcare and public infrastructure while contributing to enhanced socio-economic development in Serenje and Muchinga constituencies.
The projects form part of the Government’s continued investment under the Constituency Development Fund, which is aimed at taking development closer to communities through improved social and economic infrastructure.
