Serenje Town Council has commenced a comprehensive literacy training programme targeting all 2026 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) grant beneficiaries drawn from Muchinga and Serenje constituencies.
The initiative is designed to equip recipients with essential financial and entrepreneurial knowledge ahead of the disbursement and implementation of funds intended for income-generating ventures.
The programme, hosted at Kofi-Kunda Primary School in Serenje District, officially commenced with beneficiaries from Muchinga Constituency, representing Chibale, Masaninga, and Kabwe Kupela wards.
The structured approach, beginning with one constituency before proceeding to the next, is aimed at ensuring that every beneficiary receives adequate attention and personalised guidance throughout the training process.
Under the 2026 funding cycle, the beneficiaries have been allocated a combined total of approximately K5 million, to be shared between Muchinga and Serenje Central constituencies.
The funds are expected to support a diverse range of small-scale entrepreneurial ventures, contributing to local economic development and household income growth across the two constituencies.
The training is being facilitated by a multidisciplinary team of officers drawn from the Departments of Finance, Planning, Community Development, Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock, as well as the Ministry of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises.
The broad composition of the training team reflects the varied nature of the ventures the beneficiaries are expected to undertake, spanning agriculture, trade, and small business development.
Trained beneficiaries have expressed optimism that the literacy programme will significantly improve their success rate of CDF-funded projects in the district.
Director Community Services Ms. Caroline Muelya called on beneficiaries to actively participate and apply the knowledge gained to grow sustainable enterprises that benefit not only their households but their wider communities.
