The Ministry of Finance and National Planning has officially rolled out a Debt Arrears Monitoring Tool at Serenje Town Council, aimed at strengthening financial accountability and transparency in local authorities.
The engagement, which was graced by Provincial Local Government Officer Mr. Clint Susiku brought together Serenje and Chitambo council management and finance personnel to familiarize them with the new online system designed to improve debt management and fiscal discipline at local government level.
The Debt Arrears Monitoring Tool is an online platform that enables local authorities to systematically capture, track, analyse, and report on outstanding debts and arrears.
The system is intended to support timely decision-making, enhance monitoring of liabilities, and promote prudent financial management across councils.
Speaking during the rollout, officials from the Ministry of Finance and National Planning emphasized that the tool would help councils strengthen internal controls, improve reporting accuracy, and align local financial management practices with national public finance reforms.
Mr. Susiku commended the Ministry for extending the initiative to Serenje Town Council, noting that effective debt monitoring is critical to improving service delivery and ensuring the sustainability of local authority operations.
He encouraged council officers to fully embrace the system and integrate it into their day-to-day financial management processes.
