The government has reiterated its commitment to advancing the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities as Zambia joined the rest of the world in commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Officiating in Serenje, Central Province Minister Honourable Mwabashike Nkulukusa said persons with disabilities remain an integral part of society and must be fully included in national development.
Addressing stakeholders gathered under the theme โ€œFostering Disability Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress,โ€ the Minister highlighted the progress made so far, including the launch of the National Policy on Persons with Disabilities and the National Disability Mainstreaming Guidelines.
Zambia Association for Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD) Central Province Coordinator, Mr. Kalumba Lukwesa, echoed the call for change, stating that persons with disabilities have endured discrimination for far too long and deserve equal consideration in all sectors.
The commemoration ended with participants pledging to promote disability inclusion as the world marked the annual observance of December 3.
