𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐞, 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐉𝐨𝐛𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐞

SERENJE – Central Province Permanent Secretary Dr. Milner Mwanakampwe has officially opened Choppies Store in Serenje District, describing the development as a landmark economic milestone that is expected to stimulate commerce, create jobs and attract further private investment into the region.
Choppies – Zambia is one of the leading retail supermarket chains in Africa, offering leading international food brands and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) products as well as Choppies’ own private label.
Officiating on behalf of Central Province Minister Mwabashike Nkulukusa, Dr. Mwanakampwe said the arrival of Choppies reflects growing investor confidence not only in Serenje but also in the national economic reforms championed by President Hakainde Hichilema. He reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting the private sector as a key driver of employment, wealth creation and improved community livelihoods.
“Government will continue supporting private-sector growth because it is key to job creation and improved livelihoods,” he said.
Council Chairperson Mr. Staivous Mulumba said the store will significantly boost the council’s revenue, estimating annual collections of K88, 388 from business levy, fire certificate, health permit, liquor licence and other statutory fees.
“This investment strengthens our path toward municipal status as more investors continue applying for land,” he said.
His Royal Highness Chief Chibale welcomed the investment, saying it will create jobs for young people and support local enterprise. “Our youths will now find employment close to home, and farmers will have a stable market for their produce,” he said, urging Choppies to work closely with local suppliers.
Chief Mailo also thanked government for fostering development in Serenje, saying traditional leadership “remains committed to supporting initiatives that uplift our communities.”
He encouraged farmers to increase production to take advantage of Choppies’ ready market.
Choppies Serenje Branch Manager Mr. Mubita Kalaluka expressed gratitude to residents for their support during construction.
“We are committed to working with the community. My role is to link local producers to the buyer – Choppies,” he said.
