Serenje (02nd October 2025) – Families in the remotest corners of Serenje District can now breathe a sigh of relief after the Government handed over two fully equipped ambulances to the district under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), a milestone hailed as life-saving for thousands of residents.
The ambulances, destined for Serenje Central and Muchinga constituencies, are part of a national programme that has seen the Government distribute 119 ambulances to constituencies across the country.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Guest of Honour Mr. Paul Masuwa described the development as โ€œnot just the handing over of keys, but giving healthcare professionals the tools they need to save lives.โ€
For years, families in remote areas such as Chisomo, Masangashi, and Kabansa have faced heartbreaking delays in reaching emergency medical care due to the lack of transport. Expectant mothers, critically ill patients, and accident victims often had to endure long journeys on unsafe roads or wait for help that came too late.
โ€œWith these ambulances, a mother in Chisomo or a child in Masangashi will now have a better chance of reaching care on time,โ€ Mr. Masuwa said, emphasizing that the vehicles are equipped with modern medical tools to provide emergency care en route to health facilities.
Council Chairperson applauded the New Dawn Governmentโ€™s commitment to decentralization, noting that the expanded CDF is transforming lives by bringing essential services closer to communities.
โ€œThis investment brings renewed hope to our families and complements other projects such as maternity annexes, classrooms, and youth empowerment initiatives,โ€ he said.
Representing District Health Director, Dr. Joffrey Poshi pledged to ensure the ambulances are well maintained and used responsibly.
Meanwhile, His Royal Highness Chief Chibale, who is also Central Province House of Chiefs Chairperson, has urged residents to take collective ownership of the vehicles to ensure they serve the district for years to come.
Others present include Her Royal Highness Chief Serenje, 21 Councillors from both constituencies and Heads of Government Departments.
