Serenje, (11th September, 2025) – Central Province Minister Hon. Nkulukusa Mwabashike has launched the listing of new 2,112 beneficiaries under the Social Cash Transfer (SCT) programme, raising the districtโ€™s total to about 12,000 by January 2026, in Serenje district.
Speaking during the official launch of listing new beneficiaries, Hon. Nkulukusa said President Hakainde Hichilema had directed Provincial Ministers to ensure that more vulnerable households are brought on board.
โ€œPresident Hakainde Hichilema has realized that many of you are not on the Social Cash Transfer, so he has directed all Provincial Ministers to ensure that 41,000 new beneficiaries are added. Serenje has its own share from the 41,000 beneficiaries being registered across the country,โ€ the Minister said.
He explained that Serenje currently has 10,480 beneficiaries, up from 5,011 in 2021, following the addition of 5,340 people since the UPND Government came into office.
In his vote of thanks, Chief Chibale commended government for implementing the SCT programme, saying the initiative is already changing lives in his chiefdom. โ€œOur people are benefiting from the Social Cash Transfer. We urge government to continue also giving our people opportunities through Cash for Work,โ€ he said.
Meanwhile, Council Chairperson Mr. Staivous Mulumba expressed gratitude to government under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema for prioritizing the welfare of vulnerable citizens. He said the SCT programme was a clear demonstration of governmentโ€™s commitment to reducing poverty and uplifting livelihoods.
Mr. Mulumba added that the local authority was complementing governmentโ€™s efforts through increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocations and the implementation of Cash for Work initiatives targeting vulnerable groups. He outlined that between 2022 and 2025, Serenje Town Council had supported 149 loan beneficiaries at a total of K18.9 million, 890 grant beneficiaries at K17.7 million, 1,959 beneficiaries under skills development bursaries, and implemented 198 community projects.
On Cash for Work, the Chairperson reported that Serenje District had supported 39,290 beneficiaries to date, 24,975 in Serenje Constituency and 14,315 in Muchinga Constituency at a cost of K25.3 million, against a total of K28.8 million received.
District Commissioner Mr. Paul Masuwa appealed to the Provincial Minister to consider installation of communication towers in areas faced with communication network challenges.
During the event, the Minister also handed over wheelchairs to two beneficiaries, Mr. Joseph Kunda and Ms. Susan Chibale.
