1,200 Pine Seedlings Planted in Mbaswa Ward: Serenje Advances Environmental Sustainability

Serenje, 14th January, 2025 – In a bid to promote environmental conservation, the Environmental Planning Unit has successfully planted 1,200 pine seedlings in Chimba Mutunta, Mbaswa Ward, under the Cash for Work program.
The event, graced by Deputy Council Chairperson Mr. Douglas Free Johns Sigauke as the Guest of Honor, attracted key participants, including representatives from the Office of the Area Member of Parliament, the District Forest Officer, the Ward Development Committee (WDC), the Environmental Planner, and the Civil Engineer.
In his address, the Deputy Council Chairperson lauded the government for the Cash for Work initiative, underscoring its pivotal role in enabling the success of the activity.
He highlighted the critical role of trees in combating climate change, conserving water, and providing a healthier environment for future generations.
“This event is more than just planting seedlings; it is about sowing hope, life, and sustainability for generations to come. Trees clean our air, reduce soil erosion, and combat the effects of climate change,” said Sigauke.
He urged the community to take ownership of the initiative, noting that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility.
Mr. Sigauke called on participants to become ambassadors for environmental conservation by educating others on the importance of tree planting.
The Deputy Council Chairperson concluded by encouraging the community to remain united in ensuring a healthy and thriving environment, stating, “Let’s plant a tree, protect our planet, and secure our future.”
The Environmental Planning Unit continues to lead afforestation efforts, contributing to a greener and healthier Serenje, with hopes of inspiring other communities across the country.
